What is newsworthy?

What's this? A short post? Not on Just My Opinion, they're always really long! Not this one: it's short and sweet.

So often I hear people decrying the mainstream media is not biased. There is no such thing as the liberal media. And yet....

Let's take this article from the Washington Post for example. The headline is "Miers Backed Abortion Ban." This is the subject of an entire article? Why don't I see articles saying things like "Kennedy Supports Abortion"?

Well, it's in the Constitution! It's a Constitutional Amendment! You can't support something that bans a Constitutional right! Two Words: Prohibition!

If there is no liberal media, why is this woman's stance on Roe v Wade (from 1989, by the way) the subject of an entire article!

I'll tell you why, because there is a liberal media, and they are outraged that someone can oppose a "woman's right to kill" ...I mean "choose."

But what do I know, it's all just my opinion.

"While providing the most definitive evidence to date that she has publicly opposed broad abortion rights, yesterday's disclosure did not appear to quell doubts among some conservatives that Miers, the White House counsel and a longtime friend of President Bush, is a sound choice to succeed retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor for a pivotal seat on the nation's highest court. Her attitude toward abortion has become a central issue in the controversy surrounding her rocky nomination to the court."

The uses of the words "liberal" and "conservative" are, all of a sudden, starting to confuse the hell out of me.

I believe the headline was "Miers backed Abortion Ban." This is stating a fact that is relevant to the judicial bench vacancy. How is this liberal? Me thinks the media is liberal in your mind because you'd like it to be.

Tell me this...what are the liberal alternatives to FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, Ollie North's Radio show, Sean Hannity, The Black Panther Broadcast, and WBZ's (former) David Brudnoi show?

My issue was not with the headline, it was with the fact that the entire article was based solely on this woman's stance on abortion and no other view. It wasn't a comprehensive look at what she believes, it was a pointed look at a controvercial issue that was shown in an unfavorable light.

Where are the alternatives? CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, Dan Rather (Retired), Bawbwa Wawtahs, etc. (Really, you left the door wide open for that one.)

I don't claim that FOXnews is fair and unbiased, I think they embrace their skewd view as a balance to the "unbiased" mainstream media.

All the listings you posted are news outlets not radio stations with talking heads (I'll retract FOX News for this reason). However these news outlets you've listed all employ conservatives; conservatives who are allowed to speak their minds on the issues. Your claim for a dominant liberal bias hold no weight based on this. Remember, you're only as liberal as the guy who owns you.

Who is the liberal version of Rush? Of Ollie? Of Hannity? Of The Black Panther? etc...

Jon Stewart, Michael Moore, Al Franken, Jeanine Garaffalo, NPR, Margery Eagan, Jim Browdy, Imus, Larry King, Howard Stern.

Sorry. doesn't work.

Jon Stewart hosts a comedy show of which there are conservative doing this as well, Michael Moore makes movies of which there are conservatives who do this also.

I'll give you Al Franken, and Jeanine Garaffalo, but there are part of the same Air America show, which is a reaction to to guys like Hannity, Rush and the like. They weren't there first.

Dude, until recently Stern was a Bush supporter?

I guess I don't understand what you are asking for then. You requested the "liberal version of Rush, Sean," etc. I gave you the liberal version of those people. Now you are requesting something that liberals do that conservatives don't?

Rush, Hannity and the like are reactions to CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, Times, Post, Courant, etc.

This is why I see the liberal media (go with me on this, just pretend that it exists for a minute) as being so dangerous. Rush, Hannity, The Author of Treason (forgot her name) don't try to hide their bias. The announce it, broadcast it, tatoo it on their foreheads. The Globe claims to be fair and unbiased. So people accept their opinions, even if they are given as an angle regarding which side of a factual story is emphasised, as complete fact. Something to be accepted, not weighed and questioned, like Rush and Sean are.

O'Rielly is the only one I can think of who is really right but claims to be middle of the road with his "no spin Zone"

FOX News motto... "Fair and Balanced", haha.
