Thoughts, points, and ramblings.

A long overdue multiple topic post. Here goes:

Ramble-line: Every Elevator. Why is it, that if elevators are not to be used in the case of an emergency, they all have the firefighter's key with instructions on how a firefighter is to use the elevator? If their in the building, it's probably an emergency.

Sportsline: The WNBA. Recently the MVP of the WNBA Finals revealed that she is, in fact, a lesbian. As if people would be surprised it ran on the front page of a lot of sports sections. What's interesting about this is that even when she has the greatest game of her career (including when they won the championship) those stories never ran higher than page 4! But we don't live in an oversexed culture...

Sportsline: Boston. This has nothing to do with Theo! Earlier, someone was saying that Larry Lucchino was brought in to get a new stadium built on the tax-payers buck and just how wonderful that was! I think this is the problem with living in a blue state, they often forget that all the money the government has was once the people's cash! If they want a new stadium, do what Kraft did: Build it yourself, don't swindle the people of Massachusetts so you can make a few million dollars a year!

Newsline: Boston The Attorney General Thomas Reilly has announced that he supports a bill that would give tuition breaks to illegal aliens! That's right, let's help felons go to state schools! This is yet another obvious pander for extreme left votes. Please sit up and pay attention. This man will be running for governor soon. Let's not forget what he's trying to do! And as much as we want it to be a grand scheme where people apply for this money and once they are found to be qualified they are arrested and sent back to whatever country they came from ~ It isn't! But here's the real kicker, the illegals supporting this bill were protesting that it wasn't enough money, they wanted more!

there will never be a stadium built in MA on the taxpayer's dime. Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs built the new Garden with his own money (and then rips the Celtics off to rent the place--they will also never get their own stadium). Bob Kraft nearly moved the Patriots to CT but stayed in Foxboro and now keeps all the money he makes from Gillette stadium because he put $350 million of his own money into the place.

What's wrong with letting these students, who have graduated from Massachusetts' public high schools, attended Massachusetts' public high schools, and are in the process of applying for citizenship, to have equal access to public higher education? As state and community college graduates they are 80% more likely to stay and work in Massachusetts after college, contributing to our economy and enhancing our way of life. They are here through no fault of their own and are trying to achieve the American dream, Marc. If my parent is speeding in their car, the cops don't give ME the ticket. I think this is a great idea. If you want to crack down on illegal immigration into the country, fine - reform the federal policies. But these kids want to go to college to better their lives and our community. I don't have a problem with that.

I have no issue with allowing the felon's kids go to college as long as those kids were born in the US. I do have a problem with the government catering to them and giving them special attention that other's don't get. If their parents hadn't broken the law, they wouldn't even have the opportunity in the first place. (Chances are pretty good that if their parents are in the contry illegally, that they aren't paying taxes, either. No Soc, no taxing. So they've gone to public schools that they haven't paid for, and now they not only want to go to a state institution that they aren't helping to fund, but they want the government to take the citizen's money and give it to them so that they can do so. There is something wrong there!)

Marc, of course they pay taxes. That's ridiculous. Undocumented immigrants pay payroll taxes through their independent tax number, assigned by the IRS in lieu of a SSN. And they pay sales taxes, obviously. And they pay property taxes, of course - which is the principle funding source for local governments and...schools!

You call this "special attention." I call it equal treatment to their high schoool classmates! They aren't getting a "break" that any of their peers are not receiving. They are not "taking the place" of any other student. In fact, just the opposite is true: by having to pay the out-of-state tuition rate, these students are choosing instead to skip college all together - no public, no private, nothing. So, Massachusetts loses three times: we lose the tax income from their jobs and the possibility that they would become citizens (a requirement of getting the in-state rate is that they must first begin the application process for citizenship; so it could be argued that providing the rate incentives citizenship, too!); we lose the revenue they would pay to our public colleges in tuition and fees; and we lose because if they don't have a college education, the odds are much much greater that they will - not "return to where they came from" - but, rather live off the welfare state, tapping our free care pool for health care, our public housing for shelter, food stamps for food, and welfare for financial assistance.

I'd much rather give them the in-state rate. Look at all the birds we kill with one stone: they are required to become citizens, they pay the state money to go to our public colleges, AND they can become a productive member of our society!

Wow, thank you Mr. Attorney General Thomas Reilly for visiting my site... or do you just work for him?

So, explain this to me... If it is against the law to enter this country illegally, if it is a felony, why does our government acknowledge that they've clearly broken the law by giving felons a special number so we can tax them?

Oh, and I simply love the citizenship stipulation. They must have either applied, or intend to apply. Just like all of those homosexual couples who intended to live in Mass after they got married, but just never got around to it. Intent doesn't even require any further action! "Why didn't you take out the trash?" "Well, I intended to, just never got off the couch!"

So, illegal immigrants pay property tax? on what property? I didn't realize there were so many people in this country illegally who owned land, a house, 2 cars, and a yacht.

There is enough incentive for people to enter and live in our country illegally, we do not need to add another to the list. (While we're at it, let's give them voting rights. oh most of them already have them? huh...)

How much more will we change the laws so that the government can steal more money from more people rather than abiding by the laws that are currently in place. What do we lose? "the income tax... the revenue to the college..." and that they may take more money from the gov't thru wellfare. I have a plan. If we stop their parents from residing here in a manner that is against the law we don't even have to be concerned about it.
