Indiana Jones and Back to the Future need some more love! LOTR was cool and all, but it hasn't stood the test of time that those other movies have yet. Right now people are still caught up in it ... but will that be the case in 2015? Probably ... but LOTR hasn't earned that yet. : )

I'm with you Nutt! So often now-a-days the "best" simply means "most recent!" "What's your favorite movie?" "The last 'ok' one I saw." "What's your favorite band?" "The last band who's concert I went to." You hit the nail on the head!

Have to agree with the Nutter on this one. LOTR was impressive during its theatre-run, but, in hindsight, is painfully shallow and almost too monochromatic to watch. Orcs and blue-lit armor for hours on end just don't hold the attention like...well...depth.

Also it's hard to compare genre -- the comedy of middle America in the 50s versus the backdrop of beautiful New Zealand is kind of hard to compare. I like this test for any movie - if I'm channel surfing and discover it's on - do I watch? -- Back to the Future is a "Yep, pretty much every time." LOTR Fellowship was on the other night and it kind of ranked a "that's nice, but do I really have the time?"
